Community, baseball and a little bit of fun came together on Walton Street in Port Hope on Saturday, August 24, as Santos Auto Group was proud to support the Port Hope Challenger Baseball program during the annual Sidewalk Sale.
The day brought plenty of activity to downtown Port Hope, and Santos Auto Group was happy to be there with a dunk tank to help raise awareness and support for a truly special local baseball program.
And, of course, it wouldn't be a Santos Auto Group event without a little fun. Mosley Moose joined Murray Gentles from the Santos Auto Group Marketing Team and stepped up to the dunk tank -- not to get dunked, but to do the dunking! Mosley took aim at the target and fired baseballs at the dunk tank, giving visitors the chance to watch someone take the plunge whenever he hit his mark.
For Santos Auto Group, events like this are about much more than having some fun. They are an opportunity to get involved with the communities where our dealerships, employees and customers live and work.
Baseball for Everyone
Port Hope Challenger Baseball provides an opportunity for children, youth and adults living with physical and/or cognitive disabilities to enjoy Canada's favourite summer sport in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
The program is about much more than baseball. It gives participants the opportunity to develop confidence, build friendships, learn new skills and be part of a team. Challenger Baseball programs are designed to create safe and inclusive spaces where athletes of all abilities can participate, have fun and feel like they belong.
The Port Hope program, led by longtime volunteer Bernie Dynes, has become an important part of the local community. The dedication of Bernie, the coaches and the many volunteers who help make the program possible is a great example of the community spirit that makes Port Hope such a special place.
Santos Auto Group was especially pleased to have the opportunity to spend some time with Bernie during the Sidewalk Sale.
A Big Win for Port Hope Baseball
There is also some exciting news on the horizon for Challenger Baseball and the entire Port Hope baseball community.
The Municipality of Port Hope was recently announced as a recipient of $158,200 through the Jays Care Foundation's Field of Dreams program, with funding going toward improvements at the baseball diamond at Welcome Park.
The project will help create a more accessible and welcoming facility for players and spectators, with planned improvements including an accessible turf surface, new accessible dugouts, refreshed bleachers and new fencing.
Even more exciting, Port Hope Challenger Baseball played an important role in championing the project and helping bring the vision for an improved Welcome Park baseball diamond forward.
It is a fantastic example of what can happen when local organizations, dedicated volunteers and community partners come together with a shared goal: making baseball accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
