Team Hyundai - the HyunDingers - are the Champions of the 1st Annual Santos Auto Group Softball Tournament!

Wladyka Park in Port Hope was the setting for the 1st Annual Santos Auto Group Softball Tournament and it was a sporting event for the ages....that may be a bit of an overstatement, but it was a lot of fun for all involved!

Teams from Port Hope Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz Peterborough and a merger of Port Hope VW and Port Hope Chrysler competed for the coveted Santos Auto Group Trophy.

There was a lot of friendly smack-talk leading up to the event and Team Mercedes came in as the odds-on favourite with several members equipped with past softball experience.  It was Hyundai however that set the tone early a win in Game 1, 10-9 over their luxury model counterparts.  Than in Game 2 it was the upstart ChrysWagen team with the walk-off upset of the heavily favoured Mercedes team that left the fans and media in attendance shocked after a matching 10-9 victory.

Game 3 of the qualifiying round saw Hyundai hold on in a tight affair to capture the #1 seed with a 7-6 win vs ChrysWagen.

Mercedes found their form and displayed their strength in the semi-final round and  with a resounding victory over ChrysWagen to setup a Championship game with their Hyundai rivals.  The crowd was defintiely in for a great matchup and they got it!

The Hyundingers bats were red hot had a quick lead but the determined Mercedes crew were there to win and came back with several big hits and aggressive base running to get right back into it and we had a 4-4 tie after two innings.

Great defense was on display and both teams were held off the scoresheet until Hyundai managed to take a 7-4 lead in the top of the last inning.  Mercedes fought valiantly but came up 1 run short as Team Hyundai secured the Championship and the coveted Santos Auto Group Trophy for 2026.

Team MVP's were Jordan on the ChrysWagen team who was a rookie to softball but showed off impressive power with 2 HR's.  For the 2nd place Mercedes squad it was Kevin from the service team who was award the GOAT MVP trophy.  The Hyundingers chose to go with Jess from service as their MVP who held down the fort behind the plate and had several big hits to lead the team to victory.

It was a fantastic day with incredible food, some decent baseball, and lots of laughs!

Congratulations to the 2026 Champions - the Hyundingers!
